What’s Included in the Audiobook Service?

The American Legacy Publishers Audiobook service includes everything you need — from being paired with a professional narrator to receiving coaching on how to narrate it yourself, plus recording, production, and distribution to reach your audience worldwide.

Recording

  • Let us know who your narrator is—the voice you envision bringing your book to life for millions of listeners.
  • If you choose to narrate your book yourself, we’ll provide personal coaching to help you deliver the best performance possible.
  • On average, audiobooks are recorded over 2-5 sessions, but this may vary depending on the length of your book. The recording process typically takes 1-2 weeks.

Post-Production

  • Each audiobook undergoes a thorough post-production process managed by two engineers: an editor & mastering engineer, and a quality control & spot check engineer.
  • Our expert team ensures that your audiobook files are prepared to meet all distribution specifications.
  • We’ll keep you informed throughout the process, so you’re always in the loop as we produce your audiobook.

Distribution

  • Distribution is managed through our trusted partner, Author’s Republic, ensuring your audiobook reaches a wide audience across 50+ major platforms—including Amazon, Audible, Apple Books, Apple Music, and Spotify.
  • All your sales across these platforms are tracked in one simple, easy-to-use dashboard.

Optional Add-Ons

Distribution Only—$1,500

For authors who have already produced their audiobook and have files ready for upload according to publishing standards, American Legacy Publishers offers a distribution-only package. We’ll adjust your cover to meet audiobook specifications, set up distribution through Author’s Republic, and handle the upload process. Once uploaded, we’ll ensure everything is accurate and consistent across all platforms.

How the American Legacy Publishers Audiobook Process Works

We follow a proven process to help you find the ideal narrator to bring your book to life. From there, we handle recording, production, and distribution across all major audiobook platforms.

(1) Preparation

  • Your audiobook journey begins with you telling us who your ideal narrator is. The more specific you are, the better. With access to thousands of professional narrators, we’ll find someone who fits your voice and has experience in your industry.

If you prefer to narrate your book yourself, our audiobook producer will schedule your recording sessions based on your availability.

Before recording starts, we use Pozotron to identify potentially tricky words in your manuscript. Each flagged word is paired with a recorded pronunciation guide, used throughout the recording and post-production to ensure consistency.

(2) Recording

  • The first recording session is about getting comfortable with the studio, finding your rhythm, and refining the voice for your audiobook.
  • A dedicated director will be present during the reading to ensure accurate pronunciation, strong pacing, and consistent tone. Their job is to guide the narrator and bring out the best possible performance.
  • We collaborate with top-tier professionals to ensure the highest production quality.

(3) Post Production

  • An editing engineer reviews the recording, making adjustments to pacing and removing background noises like pops or clicks.
  • After editing, a quality control engineer steps in to double-check everything. They ensure the final product is seamless, polished, and free of any audio errors.
  • Once post-production is complete, you’ll have the opportunity to review the audiobook. If any changes or re-recordings (pickups) are needed, we’ll schedule and re-master those sections as well.

(4) Launch

  • Your audio files are uploaded and begin the review process. Once approved, your audiobook is sent to retailers, and it typically goes live within 5 weeks.
  • About 2 months after your audiobook goes live, you’ll be able to check sales reports for each platform.

Who Should Publish an Audiobook?

Who Should

  • Authors of nonfiction or fiction books looking to expand their impact

  • Writers aiming to reach a broader audience through multiple formats

  • Storytellers who are confident narrating their own book—or prefer a professional voice to bring it to life

  • Creators who want to stay ahead in technology, accessibility, and audience engagement

Who Should Not

  • If your book is largely image and graphics-based (like a cookbook)
  • If you are only looking for an audiobook marketing service
  • Truthfully, we recommend that all non-fiction or fiction authors publish an audiobook along with their physical and eBook versions of their books. After all, why would you choose not to reach the 45%+ of your readers who prefer audiobooks over physical?

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I estimate the length of my audiobook?

To estimate your audiobook’s final runtime, divide your manuscript’s word count by 9,000. For example, a 50,000-word book (about 200 pages) would result in roughly 5.5 hours of audio.

How long does it take to produce an audiobook?

At American Legacy Publishers, we typically deliver a professionally produced, retail-ready audiobook within 2 to 3 months of signing your agreement.

What’s the typical recording time?

Professional narrators record at a 2:1 ratio—meaning 2 hours in the studio for every 1 hour of finished audio. First-time authors or narrators may take closer to a 3:1 ratio, depending on experience.

How should I prepare if I want to narrate my own audiobook?

Recording your own audiobook takes practice and stamina. Read your manuscript out loud regularly, restart sentences when you make mistakes, and consider using annotation tools to help with pacing and pronunciation.

While it’s meaningful to use your own voice, audiobook narration is a performance—not just reading aloud. If you’d prefer a polished result, American Legacy Publishers offers access to a network of over 1,000 professional narrators, and we’ll support you through every step—from voice selection to final distribution.

The perfect Audiobook starts with the perfect narrator.

You tell us exactly what that voice sounds like. Whether it’s a deep Scottish accent or a high-energy falsetto, we’ll find the narrator who matches that voice. We’ll record, produce, and distribute the book for you, all in-house. All one team. We take the hassle out of recording your audiobook and provide you with a professionally produced audiobook ready for the world.
